1. What are the conditions for land to be classified as forest land?

The owner of forest lands must agree to protect and manage the timber thereon according to an agreement with the Division of Forestry. Any change in ownership invalidates the certificate. New owners must reapply.

2. How much will this reduce my taxes?

Your taxes will be reduced by 50% on the forest acreage only.

3. When do I apply?

You have to meet with Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and work with their schedule first. We will be notified when the property qualifies and any tax savings to the following tax year. The earlier you begin the process the easier it will be for ODNR to inspect the property and certify to us the qualification during that year.
